DermaSensor, a company pioneering AI-powered skin cancer diagnostic technology, has closed a $4 million Series B extension. The company also launched a community investment round on WeFunder.

The new community financing has already garnered over $1 million. It follows the Miami-based company’s $16 million Series B closed in 2025 and brings total investment to $48 million.

The community investment round follows four new U.S. partnerships expanding access to DermaSensor across primary care, enterprise healthcare, and federal systems. The agreements include an approved supplier relationship with Henry Schein, a customer partnership with a major U.S. healthcare institution, a commercial partnership with MedTech MedCare (MTMC), and an exclusive reseller agreement with Medical Place for the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Originally developed at Boston University, the skin cancer diagnostic tech mergers Elastic Scattering Spectroscopy (ESS) and AI to provide an objective risk assessment of suspicious lesions. Published studies report 96% sensitivity across melanoma, BCC, and SCC and more than a 50% reduction in missed skin cancer referrals.

Since its commercial launch two years ago, the device has been adopted by hundreds of healthcare organizations and used to scan over 45,000 suspicious lesions. Last month, DermaSensor announced it had received Class IIb CE mark authorization for the device. It won FDA de novo authorization in 2024.

“Our professional investor partners have supported us through every phase of building this new medical device category,” said CEO Cody Simmons. “Opening the financing on Wefunder is about extending that ownership to the physicians and patients who are living the problem we’re solving, given that 1 in 5 Americans are affected by skin cancer. We want the people closest to it to have a seat at the table.”
